Jurica Pavlic finished this year’s European Championship in the eighth place. The begging wasn’t good but during the next rounds he was making clear progress and thanks to good second part he found his place in the first half of the series.
It wasn’t definitely easy year for Tomasz Gollob, the best Polish speedway rider in history. “Skinny” had problems in Polish league where he couldn’t find the right setups for a long time but surprisingly he began Speedway European Championships pretty good, he was in the final in Gustrow.
Andzejs Lebedevs is one of the most talented riders in Latvia. In the final of Challenge in Debrecen he was riding really good but after the additional heat it appeared that he didn’t qualify to SEC 2014…
Victory in Challenge in Debrecen, very good score in Gustrow and then something went wrong. Briefly this was Adrian Miedziński’s season in SEC. Surely Pole wanted to fight for better place in the classification but crashes and bad luck caused that “Miedziak” was only eleventh in general classification.
Because of the injury Grigorij Laguta lost three of four tournaments of this year’s Speedway European Championships. Russian was healthy only for the last round in Częstochowa and… he won it in a great style. If it hadn’t been because of the injury, he would definitely have fought for one of the medals of European Championship.
Grand Prix of Poland, which took place in Toruń, ended with the victory of Krzysztof Kasprzak. Apart from Pole on the podium were Andreas Jonsson and Jarosław Hampel. After three rounds of heats of Grand Prix of Poland it was clear that Greg Hancock won the title. After the final there was also the heat which decided about the bronze medal of Individual World Championship. In front of the tape were Nickie Pedersen and Tai Woffinden who had 121 points after twelve tournaments. Better at start was Dane who at the opposite straight didn't leave any space for Brit atthe fence. Last year Champion did his best to overtake "Power" but, although he tried many times, he didn't manage to do this.
Jonas Davidsson was one of the most regular riders of this year’s SEC series. Unfortunately it doesn’t mean that he scored many points because Swede usually scored 5 points per round. The last tournament in Częstochowa was total disaster and only one point.
Kenni Larsen was in Challenge because of the absence of a few riders who had to start in a postponed Grand Prix Challenge. He seized his opportunity in Debrecen but rivalry with the best riders of Europe was quite painful for Dane.
At the moment Martin Smolinski is the best German rider. One of his biggest successes is winning the inaugural Grand Prix round in New Zealand, which was a surprise for the whole speedway world. Unfortunately he wasn’t so successful in European Championship and was sixteenth at the end.
Stal Gorzów won the gold medal in Team Polish Championship. In the final they won with FOGO Unia Leszno 49:41 and was better in two matches. In the match for the bronze medal Grupa Azoty Unia Tarnów had a big win over SPAR Falubaz Zielona Góra 63:27 finally took the third place in Polish league.
The second final match of Polish Enea Ekstraliga is already on Sunday, 5th October in Gorzów. Bigger chance for gold medals have hosts who had a narrow win in Leszno 44:46. However the riders from Leszno aren’t going to give up and they promise to fight for each point.
As it was expected,Elit Vetlanda after winning the first match in Kumla, won also the second match on their home track and won the title of Team Swedish Championship which they lost in 2013. Bosse Wirebrand's riders won on Wednesday 57:33 and Bartosz Zmarzlik had a great day and scored maximum with a bonus.
