TAURON Speedway Euro Championship cycle is heading to Northeastern Germany. For the fourth time in the history of Individual Speedway European Championship, Güstrow is going to host 15 top riders of Europe.
Both riders and fans are looking forward to the meeting at this unique track. Why unique? 298-meters long track has a untypical geometry and numbers of paths to overtake could be shared among few venues.
- Track in Güstrow is so specific that even the best riders are struggling here. It's really hard to name a rider, who could win here. We can witness some fantastic racing - Sam Ermolenko, World Champion 1993.
TAURON Speedway Euro Championship will be hosted in Güstrow for the fourth time. First meeting was held on 6th of July, 2014. Back then, it was Nicki Pedersen, who won this round after defeating Peter Kildemand, Janusz Kołodziej and Tomasz Gollob. During this meeting, most of wins (60%) came from the fourth gate.
Individual Speedway European Championship came back to Güstrow two years later. In the inaugural round of SEC 2016, fans watched a fantastic meeting, won by Martin Vaculik. Lowest step of the podium was taken by local favourite - Kai Huckenbeck, who raced there thanks to a single wild card. How equal this meeting was is clearly shown by a fact that between third Kai Huckenbeck and twelfth Nicki Pedersen there was only a 2-point difference. Last year's rivalry in Güstrow brought lots of emotions to all the fans gathered at the stadium. Phenomenal show ended with a win by Artem Laguta and all these let us think that once again, we will watch a great racing.
German fans definitely count on Kai Huckenbeck. Rider from Wuppertal was third in the inaugural round of TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2018 in Gniezno.
- Track in Güstrow is my favourite one. I love racing there and I'm really happy to once again compete at this track - Huckenbeck said.
Meeting in Güstrow is going to be interesting also because of the fact that not many riders have had a chance to regularly compete at this venue.
- I started there some time ago and track's geometry is surprising. However, I think that when you're in a good disposition and everything goes right, then track's geometry is not that crucial. There's always a practice session, which gives some knowledge and during the event I'll do my best to race at the highest level - leader of the overall classification of TAURON SEC 2018 - Jarosław Hampel said.
Meeting in Güstrow is the second stop on the road to Individual Speedway European Champion title. In the four-round series, even the smallest mistake can cost a lot.
- I think that the round in Güstrow will be crucial in this year's series. You can't let yourself lose points here - Sam Ermolenko ended.
