8, 14, 16, 18 – that is the score of Leon Madsen in Tauron SEC 2018. Dane, having scored maximum points, won in last round on Śląski Stadium in Chorzów and didn’t leave any hopes for rivals.
Madsen started to ride in Chorzów with 4 points advantage over Jarosław Hampel. After 22 races of final round, the difference was ever bigger – 7 points. On last Saturday, he was unstoppable. 18 points nad huge advantage in every race – that’s how he sealed the European championship.
- That was really long and difficult way to get there. Some years ago I was on the bottom and my closest friends know that. It wasn’t easy. Illness hit me so hard. I was lying on the floor, or maybe lower. Then I came back and I’m there now. That’s a huge relief. European Champion title is second to most important in my life. I’m the champion. It is still unimaginable to me. Probably I will feel it after few days. Also, we’ll see what is around the corner – said Madsen.
Dane has dominated this year TAURON Speedway Euro Championship cycle. He didn’t stand on the podium only in Gniezno, where he scored 8 points. In Gustrow everything looked well and it gave him second place. In Daugavpils and Chorzów he was clearly the best and it gave him European Champion title.
- That’s funny. When people asked me about pressure before final in Chorzów, I answered that we have to stop and check what we have now. We’re lucky people, that we can ride on stadium where 30 000 people are watching us. I know that I have to keep focus on my work, but now I want to enjoy the moment. That’s an epic feeling – finished Madsen.
