Final round of the Individual Speedway European Championship, which was held at the Śląski Stadium in Chorzów, has been nomineed for the Sport Business Awards 2018, awarded by Sport and Business Forum SPORTBIZ. Winners will be announced during the official 15th Gala of Sport and Business on March 13th, 2019 in Warsaw.
15th of September, 2018 - back then, for the first time in the history of Individual Speedway European Championship series, one of the rounds was taken at the football-athletics stadium. Thanks to a huge effort, One Sport built a speedway track in Chorzów, with top European riders racing on it. Meeting at the Śląski Stadium got the positive notes from officials, riders and sport personalities, which has been confirmed by the nominee to Sport Business Awards for 2018.
- Having Tauron Speedway Euro Championship in the TOP 3 of the Best Sport Events, competing for the Sport Business Award for 2018 is a huge honour and I would like to express my congratulations. I'm even more happy that this event was held at the Śląski Stadium - Krzysztof Klimosz, president of the Śląski Stadium corporation.
Venue in Chorzów is special for every Polish fan. It was here, when Poles got their medals in the top sport events and it was no different when it comes to speedway. Right there, in Chorzów, gold medal in the Individual Speedway World Championship was reached by Jerzy Szczakiel and Zenon Plech put himself on second and third step of the podium. One year ago, silver medal of the Individual Speedway European Championship was hanged on Jarosław Hampel's neck.
- This success came from many elements, including knowledge, organizers' experience, ability to plan these kind of events, professional preparation, having the top speedway riders in the line up and a great promotion of this event, which made 30 thousand people attend the stands of the stadium. It was a passionate show and we're happy that speedway came back to Śląski Stadium, where it had been years back. Rich tradition of speedway rivalry at this stadium had finally its continuation in such important place for the speedway history - Klimosz added.
It's worth mentioning that in the TOP 3 competing for the "Sport Venue" award, Śląski Stadium has also appeared.
Organizers of the TAURON Speedway Euro Championship have already announced that final round of 2019 rivalry, will be once again, held at the Śląski Stadium. This year's Euro Champion will be known on 28th of September, 2019. Ticket sales start soon.
