It’s time to determine the best riders in Europe! The SEC 2021 series will begin in Bydgoszcz. Last season we saw one of the best competitions of the year on this track. The plan is simple – to repeat such a great show! But the excellent lineup, packed with Europe’s best riders is guarantee to make it possible.
Originally the inauguration of SEC 2021 was planned for Saturday, June 12th, however, the organizers were forced to postpone the competition due to weather conditions. We believe, this time sport will be the main factor of the competition in Bydgoszcz. There is a lot to look forward to!
Patryk Dudek, Nicki Pedersen, Robert Lambert, Leon Madsen and many others – the cast of this year's SEC series looks great. The title is defended by the Brit, who would love to stand on the top step of the podium again. The hosts will count on the local hero - Vadim Tarasenko, to whom the organizers have awarded a "wild card". The Russian will surely benefit from the support of his enthusiastic fans. Unfortunately, an injury eliminated the second favorite of the local audience, David Bellego. He will be replaced by Jacob Thorssell.
In 2020, the tournament at the stadium of Polonia Bydgoszcz was really cosmic. Only skilled statisticians are able to count, how many passings there were on the track. The riders fought for every point from the first run to the last centimeters of the final round. No wonder. After all, the surface on the track favors aggressive manoeuvers, passings close to the bends and carrying out epic attacks.
Last season Leon Madsen won the round in Bydgoszcz. Admittedly, he had to break into the decisive race through a last-chance run but at the end of the competition he was flawless. Mikkel Michelsen, Grigorij Laguta and Emil Sayfutdinov took part in the final run behind the Dane. The latter was granted a “wild card” and did not disappoint, but he didn’t find his place on the podium.
Both riders from Denmark will be present again. Of course, Madsen and Michelsen are among the favourites. Who will try to thwart them? For sure, they’ll have to be watchful of Patryk Dudek. The 2017 World Champion runner-up got his promotion though the challenge tournament in Pardubice and speedway experts give him a good chance of success. There are also great Brits Daniel Bewley and defending champion Robert Lambert, who show good results in the PGE Ekstraliga this year.
The round in Bydgoszcz is only the beginning of the road for SEC medals. This year, riders fighting for primacy in the “Old Continent” will meet again in Gustrow, Gdańsk and Rybnik. Last year – due to a raging coronavirus pandemic, the SEC cycle took place entirely in Poland. This season we added a location in Germany to the map. Who will maintain a stable form and will show the highest point score after the last round in Rybnik? One thing is for sure – you can’t miss this!
