The Dane has announced via his social media profiles that he is retiring from speedway. The Odense-born rider was a regular participant of the Speedway Euro Championship series in 2013 and 2015-2016.
Hans Andersen reached his first success already at the age of 16 - he became the Individual Junior Danish Champion. During his career he rode in the Polish, English, Swedish and Danish leagues. By far, his best years individually were 2006 and 2007, when he finished the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series in sixth and fifth place, respectively. In total, he triumphed in the four rounds of the Individual World Championship.
Over the years, Andersen has been a member of the Danish National Team. He is the winner of eight Team World Cup medals - two golds (2006, 2008), three silvers (2002, 2007, 2010) and three bronzes (2003, 2004, 2005). Throughout his career, he was known for his unusual riding style, which earned him the nickname - 'Ugly Duck'.
The Dane competed in the SEC series in 2013, 2015 and 2016. His best performances come from the very first edition of the Individual European Championship held in the new formula, when he finished fourth overall. It was in 2013, during the fourth round of the SEC, which took place in Rzeszów, that Andersen stood on the podium of a single round for the first and last time. In total, he appeared in 11 rounds of the series, during which he started in 56 races and won 14 of them.
