Zbigniew Boniek is one of the best Polish football players. He is also one the hundred best players in the World football according to FIFA. He has been the president of Polish Football Association since 26th October 2012. Boniek has never denied that his great passion is also speedway. He comes from Bydgoszcz, the city where Tomasz Gollob was born. Polish World Champion because of great respect for Boniek has chosen #20 on his plastron which he will have in Speedway European Championships. The president of Polish Football Association had some time to tell us about his memories connected with Tomasz Gollob.
“- Last season I was watching European Championships and I think it is very interesting event. I think that these things which BSI does are less and less beneficial for Poles so such alternative is really interesting. I’m happy that Tomek Gollobhas resigned from Grand Prix because ten or more events at his age is a real difficulty. We should remember that he has lost some health on a track. Both psychical and physical. He had to think about himself all the time.”
Zbigniew Boniek thinks also that SEC will give Polish champ new energy and will let him to find right way at the beginning of a particular season. – I think that European Championships are really good to make him strong in a season. Besides Tomek hasn’t had this title yet in his big collection and we also know that when Tomek is doing something he is doing his best and he wants to win. Because of that he will want it even more.
The president of Polish Football Association does not hide that he felt very nice when he heard about Tomasz Gollob’s choice. He hopes that #20 will be lucky for Pole. Boniek remembers also some old times when he was one of the sponsors of Tomasz Gollob. –I thanked him for that. We are doing really well with one another, I’ve known him for many years. Some time ago, when I had a company, we were one of his sponsors. I remember such story that I had some parts of the bike for him because he needed them and they weighed about 12 kilos. He is really great mate – when he chose #20 I felt really nice. I’m sure that with this number he will want to win even more. I hope that it will be lucky for him. I will definitely be watching Speedway European Championships and I will have my fingers crossed for Tomek.
“I really like the idea of the tournament. First two riders go through the final and the other four have last chance heat. I was really interested in it and I must say it is really attractive” – ends Zbigniew Boniek.
