Martin Vaculik, European Champion 2013 didn’t repeat last year success and he didn’t manage to win the gold medal in 2014. Slovak had problems with his injured collarbone during the series which definitely had an influence on his scores on a track. To be specific on the tournament in Częstochowa because in Gustrow, as he said, he failed and he lost a lot of important points because of that.
Vacul had a bad beginning of the season because during the inauguration of Speedway European Championships series he didn’t win any heat! Seven points didn’t let European Champion to qualify even to the last chance heat. This worse tournament in Gustrow was the reason why he had big loss to the opponents and as a result he missed some points at the end of the season.
The tournaments in Togliatti and Holsted were clearly better for Vaculik because he was there on the podiums. He used the experience from the league match in Russia and he scored fourteen points in the regular phase. When it seemed that the victory is really close he was last in the great final.
More successful he was in Holsted although he scored less points. He scored twelve points and was behind this year’s winner Emil Sajfutdinow and Peter Kildemand. These two tournaments caused that Vaculik made his chance for one of the medals of European championship bigger. Unfortunately he had his collarbone injured and because of that Slovak wasn’t able to ride to one hundred percent in Częstochowa. After the half of the tournament it was clear that he lost the crown of European Champion. He was fighting until the very end but the two Danes were better.
