The Curse of the first tournament?

Fans following struggles in Speedway European Championships series may notice a pattern. Like last year, Nicki Pedersen won in the inaugural round of European Championships. But this is not the end of the analogy. It is true that the current series has only just begun, but Dane’s victory can worry him. Why?

In 2013, during the inaugural event in Gdansk Emil Sayfutdinov won, the same was in Togliatti. However, finally Russian did not win the crown of European Champion due to the injury which he got in Polish league match, although he had a big advantage over its rivals after the two events and was main favourite to win SEC.

Similar incident took place a year ago, when Nicki Pedersen started the struggles from triumph in German Guestrow, and then in Togliatti. Unfortunately, in front of his home audience in Holsted he did not meet the challenge and thus he lost his chances for a gold medal of European championships.

On the 20th of June in Torun Pedersen won again, but as we know, Emil Sayfutdinov, who scored one point more during the whole tournament, is the leader of the general classification. Can we talk about the curse of the first tournament? Does the one, who wins first event, miss the championship? Certainly Nicki Pedersen, who before the season set itself an ambitious goal - to win the battle of the gold medal, does not believe it. As he points out he is satisfied with his performance for the inauguration.

"I came to Torun for the best result and it seems to me that I achieved this goal. Despite the fact that I lose one point to Emil Sayfutdinov, I'm satisfied with my performance, I realized my goal. In the end, I managed to find the appropriate setups on track in Torun, "- said triple world champion Nicki Pedersen.

And on the 11th of July, Europe's best speedway riders will come to German Landshut. A year ago, some of them started at One Solar Arena during the Speedway Best Pairs Cup event. Will last year setups appear handy? Tickets for the second round of SEC are available through the service www.etix.com.
