In a few days the second round of Speedway European Championships series will be held in German Landshut. After the first event in Torun, the leader of the general classification is the current European champion, Emil Sayfutdinov, but the winner from MotoArena, Nicki Pedersen is just behind. Let look more clearly at hosts of the second SEC tournament.
Landshut is located about 60 kilometers north from Munich - the capital of Germany's largest federal state. It has 66 thousand inhabitants and the number of population is growing. The city is a modern, service and marketing center and is the administrative center of the region.
Landshut boasts an interesting history, which has more than 800 years. The city was founded in 1204 by the Duke of Bavaria Ludwig I. Since 1255 it remained the seat of the Wittelsbach family. As a local government office place of principality "Bayern-Landshut" the city experienced at that time proud development.
For several decades, Landshut is also a thriving center for motorcycle sport. Since the inception of the local Automobile Club there were organized motorcycle race, speedway and amateur car races.
Since 1974, behind Ellermühle mill there is a speedway stadium. It covers an area of 76,000 square meters and can host even 12 thousand fans. The track has a length of 390 meters. The track was opened for the local team on August 17th 1975. AC Landshut has its matches on this track. The team starts in Bundesliga, earlier in Superleague. AC Landshut speedway riders won 16 titles of German champion and 7 vice – champion titles in the history of the club. Many of riders starting in the team from Landshut also won international individual titles. Currently, the team captain is a permanent participant of Individual European Championships, - 30 - year-old Martin Smolinski.
