Interview with Emil Sayfutdinov, double winner of the Speedway Euro Championship, who will take start his battle for another medal in in German Güstrow (July 16).
Emil, you're one of the main favourites to win the whole cycle. Are you ok with that role?
I don't see it that way. We're starting the new season of SEC, in Güstrow there will be totally new meeting, so absolutely, I don't take it that way. I just wish it'll be ok and how in fact it's gonna be, we will see.
If not for the injury caught in 2013, you would probably be now a proud owner of three golden medals. So far, you got two.
Yeah, I've got "only" 2 medals and a chance to fight for third in this year. I can only promise that in this year's Speedway Euro Championship, I'll do my best to reach another one.
There's a saying "What is delayed is not lost".
Yeah, I know it and hopefully it will be like that.
You're still hungry for the wins. It's easy to feel and see. After your comeback, you've been reaching some good results. You feel that you're in the optimal form right now?
Of course! I do feel I'm in the right form. Nothing's free, though. I keep working hard to set this form still on a very high level, but also to be even better. On the other hand, it is as it is. I don't get excited or feel sad with the results. I just enjoy my racing and want to achieve the most possible.
Speedway Euro Championship starts from the round in Güstrow. What can you say about this venue?
Not much, actually. Maybe except the fact that for every participant of the first round, it'll be equal. We'll be competing and who's gonna end at the top, we will see. To be honest, I don't put my mind into thinking about the tracks. I just come to the meeting and...
You count on getting the maximum.
That's the best that can be. Every time I'm trying to fight and focus on the things that I'm doing and I just want to do it the best I can.
