Janusz Kołodziej out of the TOP 5 of Speedway Euro Championship. Couple whiles ago, it was hard to imagine, however the 2016 season brought a brutal crash with reality for Pole. Since 2014, Kołodziej had been the best Polish rider in SEC, however, after this season, everything changed.
It all started with a really good performance in Güstrow. Kołodziej got 9 points and was even able to advance to the big final. Unfortunately, bad weather conditions at the track - unable to be raced on, got Kołodziej out of the rostrum in Germany.
Round in Daugavpils started great for Kołodziej. Pole managed to defeat Krzysztof Kasprzak, Vaclav Milik and Peter Ljung. In the second series, he ended 3rd. It seemed like some good corrections would make "Koldi" fight for something more in Latvia. However, three next starts ended in the worst possible way. Zero points gathered and four in total, made Kołodziej end at the 15th place.
The third round in Togliatti was not better than in Latvia. Six points and the win in the last series of starts kicked Kołodziej to the bottom of the table. Before the last meeting in Rybnik, it was clear that Pole would have to fight hard to get the promotion for the 2017 series.
However, he coped great there in the league match, getting 16 points, it was totally opposite during the SEC round. With only 5 points gathered, he ended at the 12th position. Overall, Kołodziej was 11th with 24 points reached. Therefore, we witnessed first such case, when Kołodziej did not advance to the next year's European Championship.
