They're not afraid of bikes' roar, don't grimace while feeling metanol's smell, grease or sweat. Regularly, they stand under the tape and cheer your favourite riders. Grid girls, watching speedway under their long, thick lashes - what made that they fell in love in this dangerous sport?
Hero of our next interview is 22-y.o. Sinem Demir, who has been a grid girl in SEC from three years. Who does she support the most? How long do the preparations take?
Why did you decide to choose speedway?
- In my case, it's hard to talk about a choice, because in the casting's final I got by a coincidence. However, if I was about to make this choice today, I would never imagine a different option than choosing the same direction. Speedway is absolutely addictive. It gives lots of emotions, especially when you support your idols live. Personally, I just love this characteristic smell and machines' roar and I'm really happy because of having such a pleasure to participate in these events. And it goes all across the Europe.
As the Speedway Euro Championship's ambassadresses, you've had a chance to visit many different speedway venues. Which of the meetings has got into your mind in a deepest way?
- Cities we visit are often the same. However, it got clear for me many, many times that crowd and everything around it what makes this magic and atmosphere.
I have got some sentimental memories from my first speedway meeting ever - as a grid girl and SEC's ambassadress. Back then, we were in Güstrow, which we come back to often. On this day, there was a lovely, sunny weather. I remember the smell of a barbecue, view of excited fans waiting for the show to start. I had a chance to walk around the stands and I really enjoyed the reception from fans. Each time we're passing the German border, I feel this joy coming to me with some great memories from three years back.
They were cognitive, pristine and exploratory. Plus, our crew definitely remembers them as successful one and easily placing at the top when it comes to the atmosphere.
What about the riders? Which one of them is the most sympathetic and who's the best in general?
-Since few years, enduringly, I really like Martin Vaculik. He's sympathetic with this positive attitude and view on life. Through all those years, I've met lots of other riders and however I could name them all, I think that a special distinction should go to Bartosz Zmarzlik. I strongly support both of these guys. When it comes to grading skills' level of SEC riders, I guess I should not make my predictions here. For sure, many of them has been shining bright, some of them were awarded for that. From my perspective, I had this huge admiration while watching Emil Sayfutdinov. He was making impossible things and definitely deserved a champion title.
Your preceding speaker, Dagmara, told us she "would like to have more women getting a chance to race speedway professionally". Do you also dream about supporting women on speedway tracks?
-I do! However, I do think that it's a really dangerous and invasive sport, but I can't see no reasons to make women unable to reach the same professional level. If there are women all over the world who would like to make it happen, all is left is to support them strongly.
Time for a typical girl question. How long does it take to SEC Girls to prepare for the meeting? Is it a long time you're preparing the dance sets, outfits or make up?
-If I had been asked about it like three years ago, I would definitely answer that it takes a lot of time. Today, however I see it differently thanks to some schemes and habits. Taking care of our look has become a natural thing - to do it before and after leaving the antenna. We do work with girls, also on our look, so yeah, there's this piece of time we actually spend on it. As I'm getting older and one have to say that my maturing has gone hand in hand in time with cooperation with One Sport, the less I'm stressed with make up or hair. I actually care more about the fact of reception of our five as "faces" of the Speedway Euro Championship - to make it as positive as possible. People notice our enthusiasm and energy and they're giving it back.
-So maybe you would like to say something to the fans before upcoming fight for the title?
-I would like to wish all the riders to end their heats safely and to the fans - have a good fun and good luck. I'm incredibly curious who's about to reach the champion's title and whether any names will be repeated here (smile). Let the best win!
