Andzejs Lebedevs was 2nd in the third round of Speedway Euro Championship 2017, which took place in Swedish Hallstavik. Before the last round of SEC in Lublin, Latvian rider has a 4-point advantage over 2nd in the overall classification - Vaclav Milik.
Lebedevs was one of the last riders, who came to Hallstavik, which was caused by a fact, that on Friday's evening his team - Betard Sparta Wrocław had a league match. On Rospiggarna's track, Lebedevs presented a great disposition, which gave him a direct promotion to the big final of the evening. There, he was 2nd and ultimately kept the leader's position.
- I'm really happy. It was a tough meeting, but organizers did a great job, which let us race throughout the whole meeting. I'm glad that I'm still on a leader's position in the overall classification and in the last round, I'll be able to start with a golden race jacket on my chest. However, road to Lublin is still long. We have many meetings coming and I'll be working hard to race in the last SEC round the best I can - Lebedevs said.
Before the final round of Speedway Euro Championship 2017, Latvian rider is 4 points up from 2nd Vaclav Milik and as he admits, being a series' leader will have absolutely no meaning when it comes to preparations for the final.
- I don't put any pressure on me. It has no meaning for me whether I'm chasing or running away. Speedway brings me lots of joy. Like I said many times, I focus to win every single heat and enjoy what I'm doing. So far, it's going well - Latvian rider added.
Before the meeting in Lublin, Lebedevs is the main candidate to win the gold medal. However, he admits that it's not so obvious.
- Everyone's still got 5 heats ahead plus a possible final. This is sport and anything can happen, you cannot predict some things. I'm in a good position, which makes me happy, but still there's one round left and many can change - says Lebedevs.
Final round of SEC 2017 will take place in Lublin. Andzejs Lebedevs had many opportunities to start on this track.
- I raced there couple of times in the 1st league (representing Lokomotiv Daugavpils) and during the Individual Speedway Junior World Championship, where I was 3rd. If the surface will be prepared well, fans will definitely witness a great show. I hope that this final round will be truly a final one. We're looking forward to see the full stands - Lebedevs ended.
