The organisers of 'Speedway European Championships' in the body of ECB (European Championship Bureau) which consists of One Sport and FIM-Europe members, have officially announced that the 5th wild card for SEC this season will be given to the British star Tai Woffinden.
23-year old Brit will fulfill the lineup of legends invited before the season by the organisers: Tomasz Gollob, Nicki Pedersen, Emil Sayfutdinow and Andreas Jonsson.
- Tai was very enthusiastic about our offer and didn't analyse that proposal too long. He is hot about this opportunity, made a big effort to be there with us. There was a big work made to get a mutual agreement with the BSPA and ACU, to satisfy all sides involved in that. We can ensure Wolverhampton and British fans that Woffinden will not miss any league match due to our competition - promises Jan Konikiewicz from One Sport.
- I am pleased to announce that I wil start in European Championships. It was not so obvious from the beginning, as we had to find a solution how can I ride in Coventry on August 9th and in Togliatti on August 10th. It was hard nut to crack, but we managed to organise that. I will miss morning training before the round in Togliatti, but I'll be easily on time before the meeting. I'm looking forward to first round of SEC in Gdańsk. I don't look on the lineups, because I treat it as a normal meeting. SEC for me is as important as World Cup and World Championships, so I'm really very happy to be in the tournament. It's a great opportunity for speedway at all! I believe that it will be awesome and I want to invite fans from all over the world to come for SEC finals. I promise to do my best - comments current British Champion.
Previously, Scott Nicholls was withdrawn by BSPA in a very last minute from the first SEC qualifier, as he has not received start permission for tournament in Chervonograd. - Official start permission for Tai is already received by relevant persons and it's sure that he will compete in all four events of Speedway European Championships this season - in Gdansk, Togliatti, Gorican and Rzeszow. We are pleased to say officialy that Brits will have their representative in our competition, that will be broadcasted LIVE by Eurosport to their country as well. That's good for worldwide speedway and we can't wait the opener in Gdansk on July 27th, where British fans are more than welcome - comments Konikiewicz.
- I know we had our issues before, but we should work together on the development of this sport in the future, there is no space for any argues. We should do the sport and Tai is a rider who can have a great influence on this discipline now and in the future - adds Karol Lejman from One Sport.
Lineup of Speedway European Championships will be determined on July 6th in Zarnovica Challenge, where top 9 will advance to SEC Finals.
