Let's meet the riders of TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2020. Below we would like to introduce you the profiles and stats of the athletes who will start to compete for the Individual European Champion title on 4th of July.

Let’s start with riders from TOP 5 of TAURON SEC 2019: Mikkel Michelsen, Grigorij Laguta, Leon Madsen, Kacper Woryna and Bartosz Smektala.

MIKKEL MICHELSEN

7, 8, 15, 15 - This is how Mikkel Michelsen's scored in TAURON SEC 2019. After the first two rounds, nothing seemed to indicate that the Dane would be counted as a one of the candidates for the title. It seemed that this one will be settled between Grigorij Laguta and Leon Madsen. Michelsen made the most of his chance. Madsen was missing in Vojens, while Laguta has had his weakest performance of the whole series. At the same time, Michelsen was doing fantastic. In front of local fans, the Dane impressed with his speed, which resulted in scored points and the final victory. Before the final round, which took place at the Silesian Stadium, Michelsen had a four points loss to Laguta. In Chorzów, both riders presented themselves at their best. What's interesting is that in the direct battle in race no. 14 the Russian turned out to be better. However, the decisive finale belonged to the Dane. Michelsen won the round in Chorzów, which made him equal to Laguta by points in classification. An additional heat had to decide. This one was dominated by the Dane, who became Individual European Champion.

GRIGORIJ LAGUTA

It seemed that nothing would stand in the way of Grigorij Laguta reaching for the gold medal of the Individual European Championships. A high point score in Gustrow and Torun were the reason that despite the weaker result in Vojens, the Russian was still at the top of the interim classification. Four points - that was Laguta’s advantage over the second in the classification, Mikkel Michelsen. The Russian started the final round from scratch, but with each races he took steps towards the victory. Three consecutive wins and a second place in race no. 19 made it necessary for Laguta to fight for the gold medal in the "last chance" heat. Unexpectedly he passed the finish line behind the back of Leon Madsen and Kacper Woryna. As a consequence, everything depended on Mikkel Michelsen’s performance. The Dane won the round and managed to catch up to a draw with the Russian in the general classification of the cycle. The championship title was decided by an additional race in which Laguta reached the finish line on the second place.

LEON MADSEN

The highest points per heat average, the highest average number of points scored for one meeting and the highest number of wins in relation to races. These are the statistics of Leon Madsen. The Dane won the bronze medal at last year's Individual European Championships, taking part in only three rounds of the cycle. His impressive form throughout the season was also reflected in TAURON SEC 2019. The defender of the championship title, after two rounds of the series, was on his way to join Emil Sayfutdinov, the only one who win the title year by year. However, the injury Madsen suffered during the Polish PGE Ekstraliga match made it impossible for the Dane to perform during the third round of TAURON SEC 2019, which took place in Vojens. Although there are more than 20 days left until the beginning of this year's cycle, it can be said that Leon Madsen will be one of the main candidates for the victory in TAURON SEC 2020.

KACPER WORYNA

Probably the unluckiest rider of last year's SEC. Being leader in the race for the bronze medal of the Individual European Championships, in front of the fan crowd, that appeared in the stands especially for him, his bike let him down. However, one should look at the other side. In his debut season in the TAURON SEC series, Woryna made it to the final heat three times and even standed on the podium in Toruń and Vojens. A steady form from the beginning of the cycle, until the unlucky last race, makes the Polish fans believe that the Woryna will be among the front-runners of this year's Individual European Championships. An additional advantage is the fact that the fourth round of the competition will be held in Rybnik – his home town and best known racing track for Kacper Woryna.

BARTOSZ SMEKTAŁA

Smektala entered the TAURON SEC series as Individual Junior World Champion and already during the first competitions proved, that he’s wants to aim for the highest goals. Third place on the technically difficult track in Gustrow was a perfect start of the last year’s series. In other rounds, the representative of Poland came slighty near highest places, which meant that before the final of the competition in Chorzów, he still had a real chance for a medal. The competition at the Silesian Stadium didn’t work out as planned by Smektala, but he ended the series with a heat victory. For Bartosz Smektala, the upcoming season will be the first to start as senior. The Pole has already presented plans for the upcoming months, and one of them is to win the TAURON SEC 2020 series and get a promotion to the GP cycle.
