David Bellego is one of the unluckiest riders of the SEC cycle. The French representative took part in the 2019-2021 series, but each time injuries prevented him from starting in all rounds of the competition. Nevertheless, Bellego has proven that he can be a candidate to win a medal in the SEC cycle.
Bellego made his SEC debut in 2019 in Gustrow. In the opening round he scored eight points and finished ninth. His performance in the 'last chance' race was deprived by a controversial exclusion after contact with Nicki Pedersen. Unfortunately, the problems with injuries started in Toruń, during the second round of the cycle. Frenchman was involved in a crash, after which he had to withdraw from the competition. The injury was so serious that he could not participate in the next round, which took place in Vojens.
Although, Bellego took part in all rounds of SEC 2020, but during the final round in Torun he was involved in another dangerous fall, which made him not finish the competition.
A year ago Bellego was once again a regular participant of the cycle. An injury suffered in a league match made him take part only in the final round in Rybnik, in which he finished sixth. The representative of France presented himself very well, and he was close to advance to the final heat of the day.
The rider emphasises that competing in the SEC has been on his list of goals for years, and this year there is one more - to win a medal of the Individual European Championship.
- Riding in the SEC series have always been my goal since 2019. It's frustrating that I couldn’t ride a full series yet. The podium of SEC is one of my main goals for 2022.
After last season, the rider from Marmande made several changes. A significant one is a change of club in Poland. In the 2022 season Bellego will represent the team from the highest league level - FOGO Unia Leszno.
- I'm looking forward to this year. Of course, it’s a strong league, but this is where I want to be. I have to pursue progress, score some good points and be consistent. I've been working hard on it, and now I'm ready.
In the last few years, the French league has seen a noticeable increase in interest, which has translated into the development of speedway in the country. The French representatives are increasingly appearing on the international arenas and a great result at the recent Monster Energy FIM Speedway Of Nations has made them a serious contender for World Championship medals.
- It’s good to see that the French league is improving. We weren’t far from getting a SON medal last year, so hopefully this time we can step up and get closer to get them.
