Max Fricke has received a 'wild card' for the second round of TAURON SEC 2024, which will take place on July 20 at the Venture Industries Arena in Grudziądz.
For the first time in history, a rider born outside the Old Continent will compete in the finals of the Individual Speedway European Championship. The topic was addressed by the president of FIM Europe, Michał Sikora, who noted that such situations have already occurred in other motor sports disciplines.
- At first glance, an Australian in the Individual Speedway European Championship sounds really strange. However, FIM Europe is very open to non-European riders participating in competitions organized by the federation, which has happened many times in other motor sports disciplines. In my opinion, it is Europe's responsibility to give opportunities to riders from regions of the world where fewer such events are organized – said Sikora.
Piotr Szymański also commented on the participation of the Australian in the second round of TAURON SEC 2024. According to the chairman of the FIM Europe Track Racing Commission, Fricke's presence in the Grudziądz event can only enhance its attractiveness.
- For the first time in history, a rider from a local club who is neither Polish nor European will compete in one of the rounds of TAURON SEC. I assume this might spark some controversy, but considering Fricke's form this year, fans in Grudziądz can expect a lot of excitement – said Szymański.
The Australian's greatest achievements include a gold medal in the Speedway of Nations and the title of Individual World U21 Champion, won in 2016. Additionally, Fricke is a three-time Australian Individual Champion.
- Competing in TAURON SEC is an incredible opportunity for me. I stand before a great chance, as the first non-European rider to participate in one of the rounds of the cycle. It is an honor for me, and I hope my example will only help in such situations in the future – said Fricke.
The second round of TAURON SEC 2024 will take place on July 20 in Grudziądz. The event is scheduled to start at 8:00 PM.
