Max Fricke, Bartłomiej Kowalski, Norbert Magosi, and Kevin Wölbert were the riders awarded wild cards for individual rounds of the TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2024. Among them, it was the 2016 Junior World Champion, Max Fricke, who delivered the standout performance.
The inaugural round in Debrecen saw Hungarian veteran and local legend Norbert Magosi take to the track as the wild card. Despite the enthusiastic support of the home crowd, Magosi struggled to match the pace of his competitors. This was reflected in his scoreline, as he failed to secure a single point across his five heats.
In Grudziądz, Max Fricke made history as the first rider from outside Europe to compete in the finals of the Individual European Speedway Championship. On the track of his Polish PGE Ekstraliga team, GKM Grudziądz, the Australian rider showcased his class. Fricke finished the main phase of the competition in sixth place, earning him a spot in the 'last-chance' race for the final. He crossed the finish line second in that heat, advancing to the final heat, where he ultimately secured a respectable fourth place.
The second half of the series moved to Güstrow, where Germany's Kevin Wölbert was granted the opportunity to perform in front of his home fans. Unfortunately, his outing was less successful, as he finished in 15th place with two points to his name.
The grand finale of the 2024 TAURON SEC took place at the iconic Slaski Stadium in Chorzów. Poland’s Bartłomiej Kowalski was awarded the wild card for this prestigious event. Racing in the 'Cauldron of Witches' Kowalski managed a 12th-place finish.
