It’s less than two weeks, on the 6th of July there will be inauguration of this year Speedway European Championships series in Gustrow, Germany. It is known that Christian Hefenbrock got wild card. And what about the preparations to this tournament? We asked Torsten Juern, the president of MC Gustrow.
It's less than two weeks to the tournament in Guestrow. What can you say about the preparations to the inauguration of SEC?
- The preparations go on really well. All staff in the club is very motivated. Lots of work is going on in the stadium to make it a litte nicer day by day for the biggest meeting in our history.
Can you feel in the town that people are waiting for this event?
- Everybody is talking about the SEC and the ticket sales show how much the fans look forward to it. In the first days of the ticket sales people were waiting in a queue to get them so within a week already 4000 tickets were gone. Now not many tickets are left and I am sure we will have a full house on the big night.
Do you think that wild card for Christian Hefenbrock is a good choice?
- Christian has been one of the best German riders in the last 7 or 8 years. In the past few years he was very unfortunate with injuries. Last year he qualified for the SEC Challenge when he was run over by a lorry whilst cycling. He worked so hard to come back and he is in good shape. 2 weeks ago he won the traditional Pfingstpokal meeting on our track as the first German after 24 years. Also he knows the track since the beginning of his career and he is very popular with the fans
There will be Martin Smolinski in the series. Is he the person who leads German speedway now?
- He surely is the locomotive in German Speedway in the moment. He has proven that he can beat the Worlds best riders and he did better than everybody expected in the GPs. Although he is not the most popular rider in Güstrow all the fans appreciate what he did on the track so far this season.
What can you say about the chances of Germans in Guestrow?
- None of the Germans will win the meeting but if they have a good day they might cause a few surprises.
Who, according to you, can make some surprise in this year SEC?
- Personally I rate Peter Kildemand very high. He is a spectacular and hard but not unfair rider and shows consistent form in the leagues this season.
The presence of which rider in the series is the biggest surprise for you?
- I did not expect Kenni Larsen to come through from the Challenge but here he is and I am sure he will show me during the series that I haven't got a clue.
Who will win in Guestrow?
- Very hard to say because on this track there might be a few surprises but I think Nicki Pedersen has a very good chance.
Thank You very much.
Thank You.
