Even two hours before the inaugural tournament of Speedway European Championships it difficult to find some space at the stadium in Gustrow. Fans were numerously coming to the stadium carring their own chairs. If somebody had thought there is no interest in watching speedway in Germany, one would have made a mistake. Gustrow appeared to be hit the jackpot!

Short straights and starting line just after the second bend – that was the track for 16 riders from Europe. However it was not a problem for the riders and the tournament itself was very exciting. The tournament began with quite unexpected win of Tomasz Gollob, who hasn’t been very successful in Polish ENEA Ekstraliga so far. Behind Pole there was a fight between Maskims Bogdanov and Martin Vaculik, who is defending the title.

First unlucky fellow was Jurica Pavlic who didn’t take the tension and touched the tape. He was replaced by Kai Huckenbeck who had a great start and on the opposite straight into the starting line he was on the lead, just in front of Adrian Miedziński. Pole dealt with German quite quickly and won the heat. The young representative of hosts was losing his strength and was overtaken by two other riders.

Before the last round of starts a few riders had similar number of points and as a result each point was essential. Miedziński knew about it and in the nineteenth heat he was picking up speed on the outside. Unfortunately for him Janusz Kołodziej decided to do the same and he widened the trajectory for Sajfutdinow. Russian involuntarily blocked Miedziński and Pole hooked the fence and fell. As a result he didn’t qualify to the race – off because Tomasz Gollob won his last heat in regular phase of the tournament.

In the race – off Emil Sajfutdinow and Peter Kildemand fought for the first place. Dane pushed the Russian to the fence and Tomasz Gollob took the advantage of this situation and overtook both riders on the inside and qualified to the final.

In the final Pedersen was on the lead since the very beginning and he constantly made his advantage bigger and bigger. At the beginning second was Tomasz Gollob but his bike was weaker and weaker and first Peter Kildemand overtook him and then Janusz Kołodziej, during the last lap. After the first round of SEC Nicki Pedersen and Janusz Kołodziej are on the lead in general classification. Both have 14 points.
