Leon Madsen took second place during Saturday's competition in Güstrow. The Dane admits that he is satisfied with the result he achieved, because the injury suffered in Bydgoszcz makes it very difficult for him to ride.
On Saturday, Leon Madsen's performance was put in doubt. The Dane is suffering from the effects of a crash in Bydgoszcz, where he fell after a contact with Mikkel Michelsen in the final race. The injury is so serious that the Dane has problems with sitting on the bike.
- It's a very painful injury and to be honest I need 10 weeks without a bike to get back into shape, but it's not possible during the season. I have to fight and rest between starts as long as possible.
In the end, the European Champion from 2018 took part in the competition in Güstrow, but the beginning did not go as planned. After three series he scored only three points.
- After the third start I thought about withdrawing from the meeting. My knee got so twisted that I almost jump off the bike.
The next starts were much better for Madsen. With two wins, the Dane made up the lost points and promoted to the last chance heat, where he finished as first. In the final Madsen crossed the starting line behind Piotr Pawlicki.
Madsen finished second in Güstrow for the second time in a row. On Saturday the Dane collected 11 points, which gives him third place in the interim classification of the series. The leader is Piotr Pawlicki, who has five points more than Madsen.
The Dane stresses that - for him - the fight for the title is still open.
- I'm happy with the amount of points I scored in Güstrow. I'm still at the top and still have a chance to win the European Championship.
