TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2024 calendar is revealed. The series will visit two completely new locations, while the others are well known to the fans of the Individual European Championship.
The first round will take place in Debrecen. It is the only active speedway oval in Hungary. The local club has been operating since 1972 and is the strength of the sport in the country. The local hero, Zlotan Adorjan is the only Hungarian who has been a regular participant in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series. The speedway track in Debrecen is one of the longest in the world - its length exceeds 400 meters. The first-ever round of the Individual European Championship series at this venue will be an ideal opportunity to get more publicity for speedway in Hungary.
- It is a great honour for us that the One Sport has voted for Debrecen to host the first round of the TAURON SEC, as we will write sport history in our country with this event! Such a high-ranking speedway meeting has never been organised in Hungary before, and we feel that the work we have put into the motorsport in Debrecn since 2019 has been successful - said the president of the local club, Norbert Barath.
- We are waiting with interest to see the best speedway riders of Europe fighting in Debrecen, hoping that everyone will be satisfied after this great event - he concluded optimistically.
Six weeks after the inauguration, the riders will fight for points to the general classification in Grudziądz. Similar to Debrecen, the TAURON SEC round will be held there for the first time in the history of the series. The history of speedway in the city dates back to the late 1960s. Recently, the local GKM has been competing in the PGE Ekstraliga and focusing on developing youngsters to secure their future in the Polish highest division. The venue, which opened in 1967 - after a major reconstruction carried out in the early 21st century - is capable of accommodating 8,000 fans. The oval requires riders to make skillful use of their driving techniques. We hope that the fans gathered at the stands will witness a gripping spectacle.
- I am glad that an event of such a large format will be held in Grudziądz. In the recent history of our club, we have not organized any competition of a higher rank. We are pleased that our city and club receives increasingly larger speedway events. We would like to thank One Sport for their trust. I believe that TAURON SEC round in Grudziądz will bring many sports emotions - said the president of GKM Grudziądz, Rafał Murawski.
The third round of the upcoming series will be held in Güstrow. The German city will host the struggle for the title of the best speedway rider of the Old Continental for the ninth time. Fans watching the races held on the technical track each time witness a fight from the start to the finish. A year ago Janusz Kołodziej grabbed the win with 17 out of 18 points scored, while Andzejs Lebedevs returned to the podium after a six-year break.
The Slaski Stadium returns to the TAURON SEC map after a five-year break, and it is in Chorzów that the fourth and final round of the Individual European Championship will be held on September 21. This is a place with a rich speedway traditions, and the 'Cauldron of Witches' has hosted the most prestigious competitions for many years. The final battle for the European Championship will be held at this stadium for the third time. Previous TAURON SEC rounds were held there in 2018 and 2019. In both cases, the Danes - Leon Madsen and Mikkel Michelsen - get their wins. Will either of them reach for a second victory at Slaski Stadium? We will find out the answer on September 21.
